The Finding the Hope community outreach helps connect people with the hope of the gospel

Millions of Canadians have never heard a clear presentation of the gospel of Christ. The Finding the Hope community outreach helps churches place a gospel message in every home to reach every heart.

A gospel outreach that connects your church to your community

Finding the Hope outreaches help you connect with every home in a neighbourhood or entire city. You select the area you want to reach, and we’ll mail the Finding the Hope gospel booklet to each home, along with an introduction to your church and its ministries.

Assured delivery

Thanks to the postal system, we have an easy, efficient, and cost-effective way to deliver the gospel message. The Finding the Hope gospel message, along with information about your church, is mailed to every home in your selected postal codes.

Announce what's coming

Before the gospel message arrives, volunteers from your church can optionally place door hangers at the homes in your selected area. These give people a heads up that the Finding the Hope gospel booklet is coming to their mailbox. There is space on the back of each door hanger to include information about your church or a special event.

Following up made easy

The Finding the Hope packet includes multiple ways for people to respond and connect with your church:

  • They can contact your church directly
  • They can contact our office to order the free follow-up book Seven Days with Jesus
  • They can mail the included response form to our office
  • They can visit the follow-up website, where they can use our church finder to find your church, learn more about Jesus, order helpful resources, and much more

“Our regular attendance of around 80 people rose to 96 on Palm Sunday and to 137 on Easter Sunday.”

Helpful resources to reach your neighbourhood

Finding the Hope is more than just a booklet. We have created several resources that support a flexible strategy to help you reach your neighbourhood. In addition, our office will help you plan and implement a Finding the Hope outreach tailored for your specific needs.

Begin your outreach

Door hangers

Announce what’s coming to people’s mailboxes with a pre-outreach door hanger shortly before the scheduled mailing of the Finding the Hope packet. A post-outreach door hanger helps the church follow up on the mailing. We imprint the church’s contact information on the back along with any message or invitation. Door hangers provide a great opportunity for prayer walking neighbourhoods!

A paper card with the headline

7-day prayer guide

Prayer is central to Finding the Hope outreaches. To help facilitate a prayer movement in every participating church, we created a card that folds to a pocket size and offers a 7-day prayer focus to assist prayer before, during and after the outreach.

Card inserts

We created card inserts that fit inside the Finding the Hope packet to help churches present their church and its ministries to their neighbours, or invite people to a special event. Once we have the details, we create a customized card insert and mail it with the packet.

The Finding the Hope packet

The Finding the Hope community outreach brings the gospel message right to people’s mailbox. These outreaches are often the first contact from a local church for many individuals. The evangelistic packet contains the Finding the Hope gospel booklet, a letter of introduction, a response form with envelope for those who do not use technology, and an invitation to the local church.

Social media ads

We support community outreaches with targeted Facebook ads before, during and after an outreach. The Facebook ads often reach beyond the neighbourhoods selected for the community outreach, identify the city or community, and provide the name and contact details of the church. It gives people beyond the scope of an outreach an opportunity to read the Finding the Hope booklet online and order a copy, along with the free book Seven Days with Jesus. Thousands of impressions are recorded every time!

Our follow-up website

Components of the Finding the Hope outreach invite people to visit findingthehope.com, a website dedicated to helping people find out more about Jesus and his gospel message, discover the Christian faith, and request follow-up. The site also provides the contact information of every participating church, so people can easily find a church near them and connect with people of hope!

The Finding the Hope outreach is multi-faceted and economical

Finding the Hope helps you:

  • Reach every home in your neighbourhood
  • Raise the awareness of your church and its message
  • Resource your members to share the gospel one on one
  • Connect with non-churched people in a variety of ways
  • Nurture a vision for outreach in your congregation
  • Mobilize prayer for the labourers and the lost

Every home in your target area can be reached for less than $1.00 per home. This includes the Finding the Hope gospel packet, and the follow-up book Seven Days with Jesus for everyone who responds.

With decades of experience in a variety of cultures across the globe, we know that the Finding the Hope outreach can impact your community. We are here to help!

Finding the Hope is a flexible process

Finding the Hope is highly flexible. It's not a one-size-fits-all outreach. We work together to tailor the process to your vision and customize Finding the Hope for your specific needs.

  1. 1

    Getting started

First, you and any other church you're collaborating with identify the area you want to reach, assemble your coordinating team, and develop your local strategy. Our Campaign Coordinator will provide you with an outreach guide to walk you through this process.

  2. 2

    Praying together

We believe it's essential that churches establish a prayer team for a Finding the Hope outreach. Evangelism is a spiritual work. Your evangelistic efforts will be much more effective with prayer support. Many churches plan prayer walks, services, or other prayer-focused events before the Finding the Hope packet arrives in people's homes.

  3. 3

    Reaching every home

We mail the Finding the Hope packet to all the homes you've selected. Alternatively, members of your church can hand deliver the packet. The Finding the Hope packet includes a letter of introduction, a richly illustrated gospel booklet, and an invitation from your church to a special event or church service.

  4. 4

    Ongoing cultivation

Effectively reaching your community is an ongoing process that doesn't need to end after your Finding the Hope outreach. Many churches continue reaching their neighbourhoods and inviting people to special events. Some churches have hosted concerts, movie nights, breakfasts of hope, barbecues, and more for their communities. The possibilities are endless for your ongoing outreach plans.

  5. 5

    Stepping into discipleship

We give every person who responds to any part of the Finding the Hope outreach our free follow-up book, Seven Days with Jesus. This book is written to help people take their first steps into discipleship. We encourage local churches to engage new believers in ongoing discipleship after a Finding the Hope outreach.

  6. 6

    After your outreach

After the Finding the Hope packet arrives in the homes you've selected, our resources and strategy will remain available to you for your ongoing outreach efforts. This includes a page for your church on our follow-up website.

Testimonies

Miss Joy was 38 years old when EHC workers met her and told her about Jesus and the gospel of salvation. Her broken past and ongoing hardship kept her in despair. After receiving Christ, she became hopeful. She now meets with other Christians for discipleship ministry and her life is gradually being transformed.

The Finding the Hope outreach greatly impacted our church. Our regular attendance of around 80 people rose to 96 on Palm Sunday and to 137 on Easter Sunday. Prayer walking the neighbourhood motivated our people to invite friends and family. Many visitors filled out our contact card.

The Finding the Hope outreach was a great experience for our church. The booklet is very well done and the cost including delivery in the homes is very attractive. It is a great way to connect directly with people. Going back to the homes with door hangers was a great idea.

Pastor– Gatineau, QC

We are grateful that the Finding the Hope gospel booklet has been mailed to the people in our immediate community along with an invitation to our church. The whole process of this outreach has helped our congregation pray together like they hadn’t done before.

Pastor – Markham, ON

After serving a 12-year prison sentence for killing his brother, this devout Hindu from a South Asian nation, said he had unsuccessfully tried to rid himself of guilt through his religious practices. Through the gospel literature he received from EHC, he learned that Jesus died on the cross for his sins and found the freedom that only Christ gives. Now he attends a Christ Group fellowship and testifies to others of the love of Christ.

Our people prayed for the Finding the Hope outreach in small groups, at prayer meetings, at church services and privately. As a result, our burden for the souls of people has deepened. Our congregation is now taking the spiritual needs of people in our city and region more seriously.

Pastor – Moncton, NB

Gino and Tracey travelled from Eastern to Western Canada on their motorcycle and brought along Finding the Hope booklets. They wrote: “We use the booklets to spread the gospel message as we travel. This is why we are placing a big order so that no matter where we are, we can give people the message that leads them to Christ.”

Jim is part of a group that reclaims food and goods from grocery stores and redistributes these items to homeless and disadvantaged people in Southern Ontario. They include the Finding the Hope booklet in the parcels they distribute and give the message of hope along with basic necessities.

Kim feels an urgency to help people know who Jesus is and gives out the Finding the Hope booklet as he goes about life. He says: “I like how the Finding the Hope booklet speaks of what life is like and how it shows people that Jesus meets our deep needs. The message and the images really touch the heart.”

Frequently Asked Questions

We make it easy for people to learn the name of any and all participating churches:

  • The Finding the Hope packet has a response form that people can use to ask to be contacted by a local church. We forward all requests to your local outreach leadership.
  • Everyone who asks for follow-up resources also receives the contact information of all participating churches in their area, along with a letter encouraging them to make contact.
  • Every participating church and its contact information, including a link to its website, is listed on the evangelistic website.

In general, we need a minimum of 6 weeks to identify the mail parameters and assemble the packets that will be mailed. If the outreach includes many customized features, add-ins, and associated events, it will take longer to prepare. In some areas of the country, additional time is needed for Canada Post to deliver the packets to homes on the chosen mailing date.

The participating churches, in collaboration with our coordinator, decide how many homes can be reached.

When it comes to prayer initiatives and promotion of the outreach, such as placing door hangers, the local committee and churches decide who will focus on what area. The goal is to provide the gospel message to people home by home.

Some churches set aside an amount from their outreach budget. Others receive special offerings from their congregation.

No problem! The outreach can be tailored to your specifications. If you would rather have the booklets hand-delivered by volunteers, that can be done. If you would rather not host an event, no problem. Everything you see on this page is a snapshot of the possibilities.

Yes! We are more than happy for you to keep sending people to the Finding the Hope website for as long as you want. Your church will remain listed on the website indefinitely, so anyone who visits the site or uses our Church Finder can come across your church’s listing.

Yes! Special bulk prices are available for churches that have partnered with Finding the Hope. We want to equip caring people who will happily sow the seeds of hope in Christ as an ongoing practice. You can also stock some of these booklets as part of your integration strategy and discipleship ministry.

The Finding the Hope method is very effective in sowing the gospel message, using the only mechanism available to place the message in every home in Canada—the postal service. A Finding the Hope outreach makes the gospel present to every home in a community, creating significant opportunities for people beyond the normal reach of the local church.
