The Mexican flag hanging in a storefront

R. was lost and captive to devastating sin until…

Few tourists would know of how deeply the gospel message is needed in Mexico. Criminal groups are a constant threat to life. Answering a simple knock at the door could mean robbery or kidnapping. The nation is plagued with narco-trafficking and human smuggling. Violent crimes are common. Gangs terrorize neighbourhoods. In the midst of it all, Christians serve the Lord convinced that the gospel is the only answer.

This following testimony was passed on to us from a church that uses EHC’s literature. They give the gospel message to people they meet in parks, open markets, on the streets, and in hospitals.

R., a 22-year-old university student, was born in southeastern Mexico. He says, “Before knowing Christ, I had not belonged to a religion and did not attend any Christian congregation, neither had I read the Bible. I knew there was a God and there were religions, but I was not interested in looking for God. Deep in pornography, alcoholism, and drug addiction, I was lost. Then the Scripture was fulfilled in me — God brought me from the most evil and despicable situation into the light to give testimony of his power.

When I reached 18 years of age, I was trapped in my vices. I started to have dreams in which I listened to God speaking the following words: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and dine with him, and he with me” (Revelation 3:20). Back then I did not know that the text was in the Bible. I shared this with my neighbour who is a Christian, and she looked it up. I realized that God was inviting me, and that it was up to me to accept or reject his invitation. By then my life was a disaster. I was deep in sin, rebellion, and arrogance.

Since my life was in deep chaos, I decided to accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour. It was a powerful experience. My neighbour started to lead me in discipleship so that I could learn about God. Through the Bible lessons that I received, I truly learned about Christ and started to go to church. After a while I was baptized. The Lord started to challenge me in my heart telling me that I needed to speak about the gospel to everyone.

With the passion for proclaiming God’s Word that he placed in my heart, I started to create my own tracts to share his Word. My financial resources were so limited that I could not make many. Despite the challenges, I preached in parks, public transport, to my neighbours, everywhere I could think of. I learned about EHC Mexico, and they supported me by sending tracts and discipleship courses.

Among the tracts that they sent, there was one about pornography. I found it was excellent because for a long time I had been trapped. This was a great opportunity to preach the gospel using this tract.

Since 2022, I have been announcing the good news of salvation using tracts that I receive from EHC Mexico. The Lord has helped me to grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ and in faith. I fully trust that many who receive gospel literature will come to trust in God. All that is happening in my life is not by chance. Christ rescued me from pornography to spread his gospel. I have given many youths in the university the tract “Escape the Trap”. Some have received Christ as their Saviour and as the only one who can lift them up from the sin of pornography that damages their lives.

The Lord is with me, and with the support of EHC Mexico I will continue with the great commission. Thanks to all the people involved with EHC Mexico. May the Lord Jesus Christ multiply his blessings so that you can continue with the great labour that you do. Many thanks and receive a big hug and salutation in Jesus Christ.”

Let’s pray for R., and for God’s grace to be poured out on countless others like him. Our Lord is a God of mercy and grace. He is able to do more than we can ask or imagine for people lost in darkness. Let’s ask him to make a way for the gospel and to protect and bless the workers and the work of EHC in Mexico.

The advantage of gospel literature

Through the years we have referred to gospel literature as “paper missionaries” because they are instruments on a mission. They discretely cross borders and barriers, and effectively do what people aren’t allowed to do in many nations. Read more...
