A gospel worker prays for another man in Bolivia.

Bolivia — Stories from the field

In this nation of 12 million people, located in Central South America, EHC workers are bringing the gospel to unreached people groups.

Chacachitachica

“We had to travel several hours to reach this small neighborhood. God moved the hearts of the people in such a way that, after we shared the gospel in their homes, they asked us to hold a service. Several neighbours quickly gathered in one of the homes and we were given the opportunity to talk to them about Jesus in their native language, Quechua.

People told us that, for years, they had been longing to see believers who would bring them the Word of God. We are now starting a new Christ Group in this community and will visit them next month!”

Caranavi

In January, EHC planted a Christ Group among the Mosetén people in the community of Santa Ana after visiting every home. The Mosetenes are a community very closed to the gospel and are considered an unreached people group. Initially people were skeptical, but little by little a group began to meet in a home to study the word of God.

In the month of May, a dominant religious leader took it upon himself to go to each house of the people who were gathering and threatened them if they continued to congregate, and that if necessary, violence would be used to beat those who continued to congregate. This greatly weakened the small group, and several people stopped attending for fear of what might happen to them, including the family that lent their home for the meetings. This brought discouragement and sadness; however, they were strengthened in prayer. A new family opened their house to start once again and in a short time, God has brought more people, even more than there were before. Now they meet twice a week, and they know that no matter what happens, they must remain firm.

We believe that God will work and raise up a powerful church that will multiply in other Moseten communities in the area.

Let’s pray for these outreaches in Chacachitachica and in Caranavi. May the Lord draw people to himself and protect them from violent opposition. May he protect and guide our brothers and sisters who faithfully labour for the gospel in Bolivia. May a wide door for the gospel be opened in this nation.

The advantage of gospel literature

Through the years we have referred to gospel literature as “paper missionaries” because they are instruments on a mission. They discretely cross borders and barriers, and effectively do what people aren’t allowed to do in many nations. Read more...
