This past year a lady in British Columbia wrote to our office asking us for permission to copy a page of the Finding the Hope booklet. She wanted to reproduce the page entitled “A Prayer to Jesus”, which we had included in the booklet as a suggestion to help people begin to pray.
When we contacted her, we learned she volunteers at a women’s alcohol and drug recovery centre where, along with others, she leads a weekly Bible study.
We immediately sent her a supply of booklets. Soon after she wrote to say…
“As Bible Study leaders we are learning how to use these booklets effectively. I have used them freely in my contacts. Recently after a counselling session, I asked a lady if she had ever asked Jesus into her heart (she had attended several Bible studies prior). She said that she had not, but wanted to know how… I used the Finding the Hope booklet to share the Good News. She eagerly prayed and invited Jesus into her life. Now she desires follow-up.”
As these leaders started using the booklets and EHC’s follow-up book, 7 Days with Jesus, more women began inviting Christ into their hearts and lives. Our office continues to receive responses to the Finding the Hope booklet and requests for 7 Days with Jesus from women at this addiction recovery centre.
The lady who first contacted us added… “Thank you so much for this wonderful material. Things keep unfolding the more we get involved, and the stories and testimonies are so powerful … I love the little (Finding the Hope) booklet and use the prayer at the end to close our study, thereby always giving the opportunity to accept Christ.”
The story doesn’t stop there. One of the volunteers also works with a community service that provides free clothing to help the needy. She now includes a Finding the Hope booklet with the clothing packages. These are only a few of the growing number of examples of how people are helping to make the Gospel present – simply and effectively – wherever people in Canada live and go.
